Storytelling Courses for Professionals

Rebecca Renner teaches live and on-demand classes on storytelling, creativity, media, brand trust, and the natural world.

Each course begins with a specific problem: how original ideas are made, why journalists ignore most pitches, how marketing builds or erodes trust, or how narrative shapes environmental conflict. Rebecca draws on her work as an award-winning author, National Geographic contributor, investigative journalist, and professional speaker to give participants frameworks they can apply to their own work.

Live Classes

These storytelling courses for professionals combine a live, focused presentation with examples, discussion, and Q&A. Registration includes access to the recording.

The Ideas That Don’t Exist Yet

Breakthrough ideas rarely come from nowhere. They emerge when knowledge from one domain collides with a problem from another.

This class examines synthesis as a method of innovative thinking. Participants learn how to make productive connections across fields, use analogy to transfer solutions between domains, and distinguish an idea with real potential from one that is merely novel.

Storytelling Courses for Professionals For marketers: why journalists ignore your pitches

Why Journalists Ignore Your Pitches

Companies want coverage. Journalists need stories. Most bad media outreach begins by confusing those two things.

This class teaches communications professionals how journalists actually evaluate pitches. Participants learn to identify the story inside what an organization wants to promote, recognize what makes information genuinely useful to a reporter, and replace indiscriminate outreach with editorial judgment.

Storytelling Courses for Professionals: Storytelling & the Natural World

Storytelling & the Natural World

Stories are the battleground for the future of our planet.

Environmental conflicts are fought through competing narratives. Most people will never read an environmental impact statement, inspect a watershed, or study climate data: they encounter these fights through a media frame. The account that wins public trust can decimate an ecosystem or save it. At the planetary scale, the contest over narrative decides whether we will have a habitable planet in the future—or not.

On-Demand Storytelling Courses

Selected classes are available on demand after their live sessions.

On-demand registration includes the complete recorded class and any accompanying materials. The library will expand as new live courses are presented, creating a growing collection of professional classes on storytelling, innovation, communication, media, and trust.

Private Classes for Teams and Organizations

Rebecca also teaches selected courses privately for companies, professional associations, universities, and other organizations.

Private sessions can be adapted to the problems an organization is actually confronting. A media-relations class can examine the organization’s own pitches. A creativity session can focus on innovation within a particular industry. A brand-trust class can apply its framework to the customer experience the company has built.

For organizations looking for more sustained work, private training can also lead into consulting and advisory engagements.
